10 things to keep in mind as you apply for a visa

Applying for a visa is a complex process that can be difficult to navigate. And, if you’re moving on top of it, it can quickly become one of the most stressful events of your life.

Localyze is here to help change that. This company was founded on the belief that crossing borders should be simple. As such, we’re here to help you every step of the way. Our Case Managers have helped thousands of people through the visa process, and figured out some tips and tricks along the way. Here are their top 10 pieces of advice to make it through the immigration process as smoothly as possible.

  1. Set expectations
Localyze is here to guide you through the immigration process. However, we are unable to change the process and remove steps. You will need to complete each step, in order to make it to the other side.
  2. Use official sources of information
The internet is a great place to find answers to your questions. But, be sure to refer to official, government websites for embassies, ministries of foreign affairs and more to ensure you are using accurate, up-to-date information. When in doubt, your Case Manager is here to support you and answer any questions.
  3. We are on your side
We are here to help. As Global Mobility and Immigration professionals, we know what we are doing and our main goal is to assure a smooth relocation process for you (and your loved ones). Don’t be afraid to reach out with any concerns. We are on your team!
  4. You are an individual
Your immigration case is unique to you. While your friends and family may offer advice, please TRUST US. We also have your best interests in mind while having the added benefit of knowing the details of your case and current requirements.
  5. Be patient
Bureaucracy can be frustrating, we get it. Sadly, there is no magic wand that can be waived to get your visa approved in a day or find you an appointment next week. Being proactive and following all the steps on your journey in a timely manner will take you far.
  6. We evaluate the best visa for your circumstances
Not everyone qualifies for every visa or residence permit type. Please understand that when we recommend one over another it’s because we’ve done the evaluation based on your individual case. Instead of focusing on “what ifs,” spend your energy preparing for the recommended visa. If a small change would have made you better qualified, we would have recommended it.
  7. Please read and follow the steps carefully
Once your case evaluation has been completed, a personalized profile will be created for you that includes every step needed to obtain your visa as well as helpful information and details. For the fastest resolution, please be sure to follow all steps and read the information carefully. The Localyze platform will walk you through each step and automatically notify us of your progress, without you needing to check in after every step.
  8. Scan and label your documents carefully
Converting paper documents to digital files can be a hassle, but it’s important to take your time and do it right to ensure they can be used. We recommend scanning all documents (no pictures), labeling them, and saving them in a single file to make them easy to find and sort through. When scanning, ensure all files are saved in the smallest size possible with still remaining legible. Spending a little time here will save you a lot of time overall.
  9. Better safe than sorry
We want your visa application to be approved on the first try. In order to do this, we sometimes have to ask for things that seem silly – especially if you’ve already gone through the process before. But, we promise that our questions and requests are designed to ensure success based on what we’ve seen in the past and feedback directly from authorities.
  10. Enjoy the journey!
While moving to a new country can definitely be a stressful and complex process, it can also be an exciting opportunity. Be sure to take a moment to enjoy the experience.
